I found some pretty interesting (random) information, today. So I will share, and hopefully they are things you either never really pondered, learned and forgot, or always wondered about in the back of your mind.
1. According to nursingassistantcentral.com, the old saying of humans only using 10% of our brains is not true. Every part of the brain has a known function.
2. So…when you say “Ahh! I understand! Lightbulb’s going off…” there is some truth to that. While awake, your brain generates between 10 and 23 watts of power–or enough energy to power a light bulb.
3. I have amonia 90% of the time…do you?
Anomia is the technical word for tip-of-the-tongue syndrome when you can almost remember a word, but it just won’t quite come to you.
4. Virtually paralyzed. While you sleep, your body produces a hormone that may prevent you from acting out your dreams, leaving you virtually paralyzed
5.If you are awakened during a dream, you are much more likely to remember the dream than if you slept until a full night’s sleep.
6.Yawns are contagious. Ever notice that you yawned after someone around you did? Scientists believe this may be a response to an ancient social behavior for communication that humans still have.
7.Ambidexterity. Those who are left-handed or ambidextrous have a corpus collosum (the part of the brain that bridges the two halves) that is about 11% larger than those who are right-handed.
8.Cannibalism. Some research shows that humans carry genes that help protect the brain from prion diseases, or diseases contracted through eating human flesh, leading medical experts to believe that ancient humans may have eaten other humans.
